How do I reduce an image file size without losing much quality?
Two levers: lower the quality setting (for JPEG/WebP, 70–85% is usually indistinguishable from the original) and reduce the dimensions if the image is larger than it will ever be displayed. Resizing often saves more than quality reduction alone.
Which format compresses best?
WebP typically produces the smallest files at comparable quality and is supported by all modern browsers. JPEG is a safe universal choice for photos. PNG is lossless, so it stays large for photos but is right for screenshots, logos and images needing transparency.
Are my images uploaded during compression?

Why did my PNG barely shrink?
PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has little effect on it. To shrink a PNG meaningfully, reduce its dimensions, or convert it to WebP or JPEG if you do not need lossless quality or transparency.
